We are always there when others need help
SAFE Village Tourism is a transformative eco-tourism initiative in rural Anuradhapura,
Sri Lanka, designed to empower women, preserve cultural heritage, and promote
sustainable tourism. By leveraging the region’s rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and traditional rural lifestyles, this project creates meaningful economic opportunities for local communities while protecting the environment. At the heart of this initiative are Self-Help Groups (SHGs), enabling rural women to lead eco-lodges, cultural
experiences, organic farming, and artisanal enterprises. Through immersive tourism
experiences, ranging from guided heritage tours to farm-to-table dining,
SAFE Village Tourism blends economic development with social responsibility, ensuring long-term sustainability. The initiative is deeply rooted in Paniyankadawala, a pristine farming village rich in paddy fields, forests, and spiritual heritage. Legend has it that
Sanghamitta Bhikkhuni visited this land while bringing the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi
sapling to Sri Lanka. Beyond Anuradhapura, visitors can explore historic gems such as Mihinthale, Thanthirimale, and Isinbassagala, offering unparalleled insights into
Sri Lanka’s cultural and spiritual legacy. By fostering community-led tourism,
SAFE Village Tourism not only enhances livelihoods but also ensures that visitors
experience the authentic soul of Sri Lanka, responsibly, sustainably, and meaningfully.
